The History Channel: Civil War - A Nation Divided | 2.11GB
Genre: First Personal Shooter
This is a historical first-person shooter video game developed by Cauldron. The story line for A Nation Divided is relatively short, spanning twelve levels based on some of the most well known battles of the American Civil War. One can play as either the Confederacy or the Union. The player plays as a different soldier during each battle. During the game, you will play through a total of twelve different battles from the Civil War. The battles are divided into two campaigns: North and South. Each campaign contains six historic battles. You must play through each battle to unlock the next one.

Odyssey Number Five is the fourth studio album by Australian rock band Powderfinger. Produced by Nick DiDia and released on September 4, 2000, the album produced four singles. The most successful, ?My Happiness?, reached #4 on the ARIA Singles Chart, won the 2001 ARIA Music Award for ?Single of the Year?, and topped Triple J?s Hottest 100 in 2000. The album also featured ?These Days?, which topped Triple J?s Hottest 100 in 1999, making Powderfinger the first band since Joy Division to twice achieve top ranking in the countdown.
Many critics lauded the album as Powderfinger?s best work; one stated that the album was ?the Finger?s Crowning Glory?, however, others were critical of the ?imitation? contained in the album. Overall, the album won five ARIA Music Awards in 2001 and was certified platinum seven times. ~~ Wikipedia

The release history behind Ike Quebec?s Easy Living session is pretty convoluted. Eight songs were recorded in all, five of them bluesy sextet jams and three of them ballad standards in Quebec?s trademark romantic style. The LP was slated to feature three of the blues tunes and all of the ballads, but remained unissued; in 1981, all five blues were released as Congo Lament, and in 1987, Easy Living was issued on LP in its originally intended, six-song form. Blue Note?s CD reissue cuts through all the confusion by gathering all eight songs, grouping the blues cuts together in the first part of the album for continuity?s sake. The sextet lineup is absolutely stellar, featuring fellow tenor Stanley Turrentine, trombonist Bennie Green, pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Milt Hinton, and drummer Art Blakey ? all extremely well suited to the blues material that leads off the album. On the standards, Quebec performs with the rhythm section only, and Clark?s soft touch takes over the backdrops. His lines on these selections are long and lyrical, full of harmonic details as well as atmosphere. Contrast that with the album?s exuberant first half, highlighted by a raucous romp through ?See See Rider,? where Quebec?s wide swing-era vibrato meshes fantastically with Green?s down?n'dirty trombone slides. Green?s two originals, ?Congo Lament? and ?B.G.?s Groove Two,? are both winning and rhythmically infectious, while Quebec?s ?I.Q. Shuffle? is the most bop-tinged sextet workout. The mood isn?t as unified as some of his carefully calibrated romantic dates, but Easy Living offers the two strongest sides of Quebec?s musical personality in one place, encapsulating a great deal of what he did best.

The new instalment of the exciting AGON adventure-saga will take place in the dawn of the 20th century in the time-honoured and historical Spanish town of Toledo Once ruled by Romans and Visigoths, Toledo has a rich history, making it the ideal setting for the story of Professor Samuel Hunt and his intriguing adventure to discover the legendary ?Sword of Toledo The Professor arrives in the picturesque Spanish city, where time seems to pass by more slowly. Becoming aware of strange goings-on about him, Professor Hunt is involved in the search to find the mysterious ?Sword of Toledo?, which has been considered lost for many years. Thus, a new adventure starts for the British Professor.
A mysterious music box, an iron door in the church that has not been opened for a hundred years, an unfinished painting, some strange letters and of course the fourth manuscript from the John Gillam Codex are found. But will the Lost Sword of Toledo be found?

More Echoes, Touching Air Landscape is a split album by Japanese band Boris and Japanese artists Choukoku no Niwa. This release originally appeared in 1999, but was re-released in 2006 on Inoxia Records with a more metallic packaging. As far as the release itself goes, it is the only release by Choukoku no Niwa (who are actually two artists, as Niwa has another release on Inoxia) and one of the more obscure releases in Boris' extensive discography.

| ? | One of those rare all-covers projects that actually works, the Methadones' 21st Century Power Pop Riot might well actually be the band's best album so far. That's no disrespect to leader Dan Schafer's earlier work, which has been uniformly fine pop-punk, but this set is the first album Schafer has been involved with since his glory days as Ben Weasel's right-hand man in Screeching Weasel (under the name Danny Vapid) that's been this much unabashed fun. It helps immensely that the song selection is spot-on throughout, highlighting forgotten gems and lesser-known cult classics instead of the usual suspects: when the Records' "Starry Eyes" and Scandal's "Goodbye to You" (featuring a kicky lead vocal by Annie Soviette of the Soviettes) are among the most instantly familiar tunes on the album, it's clear that true power pop fans were behind this record. Versions of Elvis Costello's "Welcome to the Working Week" and, even better, the 1979 Costello soundalike "Back of My Hand" by the Jags are instant highlights, with a rockabilly-tinged workout on Nick Lowe's "Heart of the City" and a dead-on resurrection of the Pointed Sticks' "Out of Luck" close behind.

Not as thorough as ?The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan?, but much better than the flawed ?Greatest Hits? CD, this installment in the ?Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues?-series focuses on Stevie Ray Vaughan the bluesman rather than Stevie Ray Vaughan the blues-rocker. Almost all of these songs are blues tunes, and since this is called ?Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues?, that?s how it should be. It features Stevie Ray?s (generally excellent) covers of classic 50s and 60s blues tune like Hound Dog Taylor?s ?Give Me Back My Wig?, Otis Rush?s ?All Your Love (I Miss Loving)?, Buddy Guy?s ?Leave My Girl Alone?, and Elmore James? legendary slow burner ?The Sky is Crying?. But it?s not all covers; several songs are SRV originals, and almost every one of them ranks among Stevie Ray Vaughan?s best self-penned material: The slow blues ?Texas Flood?, ?Dirty Pool? and ?Ain?t Gone ?N? Give Up On Love? are here, as is the swaggering boogie of ?Pride and Joy?, and the fiery, up-tempo ?Empty Arms?. I would have liked to see ?I?m Cryin?? inluded as well, but that?s certainly a minor complaint, and we get a cover of Hank Ballard?s ?Look At Little Sister?, a rare ?Hug You, Squeeze You?, and the smouldering instrumental ?Slide Thing? instead. This is a very, very fine and varied look at Stevie Ray Vaughan at his bluesiest.

Trumpeter Louis Smith made only two records for Blue Note, but both of them are great! This set?s arguably his most famous ? because of a rare uncredited appearance by Cannonball Adderley, working here under the ?nom de date? of ?Buckshot La Funke? ? and blowing with a power that beats most of his other Mercury sessions of the late 50s! But the real credit here should go to Louis Smith ? who?s got a sense of power and command that should have made him one of THE trumpeters of the 50s ? an emerging young talent to stand alongside Lee Morgan, Nat Adderley, and other post-Fats Navarro/Clifford Brown talents on the instrument. Smith sparkles throughout with a mix of soul and modernism we really love ? and an earthy way of blowing the horn that doesn?t always reach its goals, but which draws even more energy from its ability to try! The rhythm section on the album?s also very tight ? with Art Taylor on drums, Doug Watkins on bass, and either Tommy Flanagan or Duke Jordan on piano ? and tracks include ?Ande?, ?Brill?s Blues?, ?South Side?, and ?Val?s Blues?.

Louis Smith had a brilliant debut on this Blue Note album, his first of two before becoming a full- time teacher. The opener (Duke Pearson?s ?Tribute to Brownie?) was a perfect piece for Smith to interpret, since his style was heavily influenced by Clifford Brown (who had died the previous year). He is also in excellent form on four of his basic originals and takes a particularly memorable solo on a haunting rendition of ?Stardust.? Altoist Cannonball Adderley (who used the pseudonym of Buckshot La Funke on this set, a name later used by Branford Marsalis), Duke Jordan or Tommy Flanagan on piano, bassist Doug Watkins, and drummer Art Taylor make for a potent supporting cast, but the focus is mostly on the criminally obscure Louis Smith. After cutting his second Blue Note set and switching to teaching, Smith would not record again as a leader until 1978. All bop and 1950s jazz fans are strongly advised to pick up this CD reissue before it disappears.

During the mid-to-late 50?s, jazz piano trios sprung up across the nation. Perhaps it was the popularity of Oscar Peterson or Errol Garner or the stylization of the intimate image a piano trio can evoke, but for whatever reason, the piano trio explosion was in full gear. There was The Ahmad Jamal Trio, The Red Garland Trio, The Ray Bryant Trio, The Bill Evans Trio, The Ramsey Lewis Trio just to name a few. They were all modern jazz units. Some trios served as the core group backing up a singer. Ella Fitzgerld had The Tommy Flanagan Trio, Joe Zawinul?s Trio backed Dinah Washington (after Wynton Kelly?s trio had done the same).
The Art of the Trio is taken by jazz musicians as seriously as the Art of the Fugue is studied by organists. Even though the basic instrumentation is the same (piano, bass and drums) an avid listener could easily discern the differences between the Hampton Hawes Trio and The Sonny Clark Trio. Each trio had its own signature, a way of weaving various influences into a cohesive statement and direction.
The Three Sounds were part of the trio explosion. Begun in 1956 in Benton Harbor, Michigan as the Four Sounds and consisting of Gene Harris on piano, Andrew Simpkins on bass and Bill Dowdy on drums (the saxophonist was dropped by the time the group moved to Washington, D.C. in 1957). The ?Sounds? eventually migrated to New York City where they were ?discovered? by Lou Donaldson. After a single record for Riverside with Nat Adderley, the Three Sounds signed an exclusive contract with Alfred Lion of Blue Note Records.
This move was fortuitous for Blue Note. The Three Sounds had a natural chemistry and beautiful rapport with the audience. The national audience began to build for the group, and soon the Three Sounds were playing clubs across the country. The group did very well in the booming jukebox business evidenced by the large number of singles that Blue Note released on 45-rpm vinyl.
Alfred Lion?s strategy for the group was simple; record them as often as possible, playing material rehearsed in clubs and fine tuned for the recording session. Sometimes a single session would yield not one but two LP?s worth of material. Over the course of 5 years (1958-62, the ?classic? trio years), the ?Sounds? released 9 LPs and appeared on albums by Lou Donaldson and Stanley Turrentine.
After the group left Blue Note for Verve (two albums in 1962) and then both Limelight and Mercury (1962-66), the Three Sounds returned to Blue Note, but with a different series of drummers. Gene Harris kept the band going until he signed with Blue Note as a solo artist in 1973. But for those classic years in the late fifties and early sixties, the Three Sounds were a fantastic, dynamic group. ?BOB BELDEN, from the liner notes, Standards, Blue Note.

Good Deal is a typically fine record from the Three Sounds, who were beginning to hit their stride when this session was recorded in May of 1959. Like most of their records, it?s laidback ? even when the group works a swinging tempo, there?s a sense of ease that keeps the mood friendly, relaxed and mellow. Balancing standards like ?Satin Doll,? ?Soft Winds? and ?That?s All? with bop (?Robbin?s Nest?), calypso (?St. Thomas?) and originals, the Three Sounds cover a lot of stylistic territory, putting their distinctive stamp on each song. It?s very accessible, pleasant soul-jazz and mainstream hard bop, but Gene Harris? masterful technique means that Good Deal rewards close listening as well.

Money makes the war go on in Stefan Ruzowitzky’s 2008 Oscar winner
Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters), which tells the true story of the largest counterfeiting operation in history, set up by the Nazis -- using concentration camp labour -- to weaken the enemy’s economy.

Though not as emotionally resonant as other recent German-language films with similar settings,
Die Fälscher does dig deeper into questions related to choice, survival and martyrdom -- and does so with greater clarity -- than any of its predecessors. Perhaps a tad too cerebral to be emotionally resonant, the film is nevertheless a very well-mounted and acted production that treats its themes with considerable depth.
The film opens with a prologue that combines two scenes. The first is set in immediate post-war Monte Carlo, where a rich man spends a fortune on gambling and expensive hotels. A girl he seduces is shocked to discover a number tattooed on his arm: the sign of an Auschwitz survivor. The second scene shows the same man, now identified as Salomin "Sally" Sorowitsch (Karl Markovics) in a nightclub in 1936 Berlin, where a woman walks away from him in disgust when she discovers he is a Jew. "She might come back to spew out the champagne," he says of the drink he just offered her. "It was Rothschild".
Sally was a gifted artist who turned to counterfeiting for the money: "Why make money with art when you can make money making money?" he says. But being a criminal and a Jew in the Nazi-era means Sally ends up in a concentration camp, though because of his exceptional skills he is soon transferred to another camp where beds are a bit softer, Sundays are off and food is more plentiful. He works on the Operation Bernhard, which is set up to flood the economies of the UK and the US with false money in order to fatally weaken their war economies and thus aid the German war effort.
Based on real events, the film opposes Sally, the charmer who believes Jews should adapt to survive (and who sees an opportunity to perfect his dollar and perhaps forget about war troubles by doing what he does best), and Adolf Burger (August Diehl), another Jewish concentration camp detainee who is a printing expert also working on Operation Bernhard and whose wife is still stuck in Auschwitz. Adolf refuses to use his skills for Nazi profit and would like to do something to stop Operation Bernhard's aid to the war effort, even something drastic, while Sally’s view is that every day lived is another one gained, even if their work aids the Nazis.

Des Teufels Werkstatt ("The Devil’s Workshop"), the direct question is not anymore one of survival of the body, but one of the soul: to which extent can a person be held responsible for actions committed under threat of severe sanctions or death? Can one allow oneself to live if it makes others, even unknowns, die? Would a sacrifice be worthwhile or would martyrdom be in vain?......

Furthermore, according to the editorial staff of CGW/GFW, the magazine will essentially remain unchanged and is in no way subject to Microsoft's influence, something reflected in the language of the legal agreement between Ziff Davis and Microsoft (akin to how the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine's (OPM) content was not influenced by Sony in any way, outside of what's in the demo discs).
